Under "View" there is an option called "Show Tab Bar" which effectively breaks the tab bar.
When "Show Tab Bar" is selected, a redundant bar at the top of the window is added that messes up the location of the click target for each tab.
If it turns out this option is on, please choose "Hide Tab Bar" and your problem will be solved.
